OwnUp Privacy Policy

Last updated July 19, 2026

OwnUp helps teens learn to understand and communicate about their own health — it's not a medical record system or a doctor, and this page explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and how you can delete it at any time.

What we collect

When you create an account and use OwnUp, we store:

We never collect insurance information, and we never ask for more than what a feature actually needs.

How it's stored

Your data lives in a private database (Supabase) protected by row-level security — meaning the system itself only ever lets your account read or write your own rows. It's encrypted in transit and at rest. No one browses user health data as a matter of course; it exists so the app can show it back to you.

The AI Coach and other AI features

OwnUp's AI features — the Appointment Coach, badge quizzes, and the allergy-card translator — are powered by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. When you use these features, the relevant text you've entered (like your listed allergies, or what you type to the coach) is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response, and nothing else.

The AI Coach never diagnoses, treats, doses, or interprets your symptoms clinically. It helps you organize your thoughts and prepare questions — always talk to a real doctor, nurse, or trusted adult about actual health decisions.

If something you describe sounds urgent or crisis-related, the app stops coaching and shows you real crisis resources (988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, Crisis Text Line, 911) instead of continuing the conversation. This is handled automatically by the app — it is not monitored by a person in real time, so if you're in immediate danger, always contact emergency services directly.

What we don't do

Your data, your control

You can edit or delete any individual piece of health info at any time in the Health tab. You can permanently delete your entire account and all associated data in one tap from Profile → Delete account — this is immediate and irreversible, and removes everything: your profile, health records, visit history, and login.

Who this is for

OwnUp is intended for teens 13 and older. It is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
